King Charles is “not seeing his grandchildren” after his relationship with his son Prince Harry has been left in a “sad state”, according to an expert.

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle left the UK and moved to California when they stepped down from the Royal Family in 2020. Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have grown estranged from The Firm.

Their broken relationship means Charles did not see his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, throughout 2023. Royal commentator Michael Cole suggested the monarch may have only seen his granddaughter once, despite Harry pleading with his father to develop a relationship with the children.

When the Sussexes were evicted from Frogmore Cottage, Harry is said to have begged his father to reconsider. Writing in his new book Endgame, royal author Omid Scobie said Harry asked his father: “You don’t want to see your grandchildren anymore?”

Charles has only had a handful of meetings with Archie and has only met Lilibet once. Royal expert Michael said: “When the King asked Prince Harry and his wife to vacate Frogmore Cottage, Harry said ‘doesn’t the King want to see his grandchildren’.

“Well, the fact is he is not seeing his grandchildren.” Speaking to GB News he added: “He has hardly seen Prince Archie and I am not sure he has even since Princess Lilibet more than once. It is a very sad state of affairs.”

Despite the frosty relations, it seems the King could be repairing his relationship with his son which means he could spend more time with his grandchildren. To celebrate Charles’ 75th birthday, Harry called his dad after not speaking “for some time”.
