Serena Williams shared an important health update on Wednesday after doctors found a large cyst on her neck. She posted a video on social media from her hospital bed, saying that “everything is okay” after having a procedure to remove the cyst.
In the TikTok video, Serena explained that she had a benign branchial cyst “the size of a small grapefruit” taken out of her neck. It was discovered in May during an MRI. She mentioned that doctors said she didn’t have to remove it if she didn’t want to, so she initially chose not to. However, the cyst kept growing.
After getting more tests and one biopsy, which all came back negative, her doctors advised her to remove it as soon as possible because it was getting so big and could get infected or leak.
She added, “So this is me removing it. I feel so grateful and fortunate that everything worked out, and most of all, I’m healthy. I still made it to American Doll with Olympia as promised.”
The 43-year-old Serena Williams shared on X (formerly Twitter) that she missed a lot of events while recovering from surgery. She mentioned things like the Glamour Magazine Woman of the Year awards and Rafael Nadal’s retirement, saying, “I am still recovering, but getting better. Health always comes first.”
Serena officially retired from tennis in 2022 after the US Open and has been focusing on raising her young family since then.
The couple introduced their youngest daughter, who was born in August 2023, by creating her own Instagram account on Monday. They captioned her first post, “Oh hello there—I know it’s been over a year, but I’m just getting used to this.”
The post included cute pictures of their youngest daughter at home.
Her proud dad shared with People this year that the two sisters have a strong and special bond because there’s a six-year age difference between them.
He said, “There’s a big age gap, and Olympia has a bit of a caring nature. She’s like, ‘This is my baby,’ and it’s wonderful to see them together.”
He added, “They play and wrestle a lot. We’re really lucky because Adira has a great personality, and so does Olympia, plus she’s really excited to be a big sister.”
He also mentioned, “Watching them interact has been really fun. Adira is getting more mobile and more vocal, and it’s only going to get even more fun.”
Serena told People that becoming a mother changed how she views success. She said, “I’ve been focused on my career my whole life, but when I had a family and got married, I realized there’s so much more to life. And that was great.”
Now, she hopes her daughters will follow in her famous footsteps!
