A woman staying at a hostel while traveling decided to treat herself to some self-care. However, she soon realized that she looked a bit scary while walking around.
Katie Stafford, 26, is traveling in Southeast Asia and posted a TikTok video showing the funny moment when she realized what her face mask looked like after applying it in the hostel.
She said, “I could feel it stinging, so I opened my front camera and saw that.”
The video, which has been watched over 5.8 million times since it was shared on October 7, shows Stafford wearing a foamy face mask that she didn’t expect to look like that. In the short clip, she bursts into laughter after realizing how she looks and flips the camera to show her friend’s surprised reaction.
She added a text overlay saying: “I’ve just been walking around my hostel thinking I looked cute doing skincare and didn’t realize it was a foaming face mask, and I look like Miss Piggy.”
In the caption, she said, “I gave myself a fright when I first opened the camera.”
In the video, Stafford compared herself to Miss Piggy from the Muppets, but others had different opinions. She mentioned that some comments compared her to Freddy Kruger.
Traveling in Southeast Asia is becoming popular among young people. Popular places to visit in the region include Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Backpacking is also a growing travel trend. In 2021, over 10 million people went on backpacking trips in the U.S., compared to 7 million ten years earlier, according to Statista.
Stafford’s video got thousands of comments, and many people found it funny. One person named Courtney joked, “The cake scene in Mrs. Doubtfire.”

A user called Miss K commented, “There wouldn’t be enough floor for me to run if I saw this in the hostel.”
