A Colorado animal rights activist who tried to hire a hit man to kill her husband’s girlfriend—who had once served as the family’s au pair—has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

District Judge Randall C. Arp handed down the sentence for Jennifer Reba Emmi on Monday for nine counts in three separate cases, according to KUSA. Emmi had already pleaded guilty to charges including solicitation of second-degree murder, stalking and retaliation against a witness or victim.

“The defendant poses a threat to the health and safety of our community and caused significant trauma to the victims of her crimes,” Senior Deputy District Attorney Kate Knowles said after the sentencing, according KCNC-TV. “The court’s sentence ensures that they can move on with their lives without fearing for them.” Read the full story here ▶
