Due to the intertwined powers of Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellanis Kamala Kahn, the recently released trailer begins on their trading floors before Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers does the same. The opening line of the Beastie Boys’ 1998 hit song “Intergalactic,” “Bam, now you’re not telling me to smile,” is used to introduce Larson’s debut in the trailer. It appears to be a nod to the sexist backlash Larson has experienced since joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019 as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, which includes the first installment of the series to receive a barrage of criticism soon after its release.

Brie Larson is Captain Marvel

Director Nia DaCosta has previously opened up about Larson’s return to the MCU, particularly in light of the actor’s performance in the upcoming film. “We were shooting a more emotional scene,” DaCosta recalled, “and Larson turned to me, took three or four and said, ‘Well, I’m holding back the tears, but if you want them to fall, let it fall, I know.’ .’ The level of control she has over her instrument is really impressive.”

Larson herself has spoken about why she got into the role in the first place, noting that it was mostly Ms. Marvel’s existence that drew her to the role. Larson said, “A big part of why I wanted to play Captain Marvel was because of Ms. Marvel and what that meant.” is just a really exciting thing.”

The wonders hits theaters on November 10th.
