Until now, the Karate Kid franchise has only been preserved through the “Cobra Kai” TV series, but in 2024, a brand-new film is scheduled to bring it back to theaters. Exactly 40 years after the original “Karate Kid” movie debuted in 1984, the untitled project will be the sixth installment in the series. In the first film, played by Ralph Macchio, Daniel LaRusso, a teenager trains karate from martial arts instructor Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) to protect himself from a gang of bullies, one of whom being Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

Since “Cobra Kai” likewise centers on their rivalry, we’re left to wonder if the upcoming movie will reunite the famous duo.

Despite not being involved in the project, Macchio told Entertainment Weekly in September 2022 that anything might happen because it was still in its early phases. I believe that [will be determined] soon, otherwise I might not even be involved, Macchio stated. I’ll let you know when I have more information.

Of course, it’s also conceivable that the film will center on a different group of characters. Hilary Swank played Julie Pierce, another of Miyagi’s students, in the fourth Karate Kid movie, while Ralph Macchio featured in the first three. In contrast, Jackie Chan played Mr. Han in the remake of “The Karate Kid” from 2010 that starred Jaden Smith as Dre Parker.
