When asked about Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which is rumored to be about their breakup, he chose to focus on the broader emotional challenges rather than directly addressing the album.

Joe Alwyn admitted that the ending of his relationship with Taylor was “a hard thing to navigate.”

Joe shared: “I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize with and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years”.

Joe Alwyn added, “It’s a difficult relationship to talk about parting ways.” Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn decided to split in April 2023 after over 6 years of dating, coinciding with the pop superstar starting The Eras Tour.

At the time, a source indicated that the separation was largely due to “personality differences,” which made it “harder for both to empathize with each other.”

In the interview with The Times, Joe also shared his reflections on his breakup.

He expressed, “What’s unusual about this situation is that, a week later, our relationship suddenly became public and everyone outside could comment. It feels like something very real was suddenly thrown into a surreal space through the lens of media, social networks… where our relationship was dissected, speculated upon, distorted to the point of unrecognizability. There’s always a gap between what is known and what is said. However, I have found peace.”

Alwyn further revealed that he and Taylor Swift decided “to keep more private details about their relationship confidential.” Alwyn stated, “Because love has never been something to commodify, and I see no reason to change that.”

“Joe has not said one word about Taylor or their breakup and has been completely respectful of her,” an insider said. “It’s undeniable that the name of her upcoming album is in reference to Joe’s WhatsApp group chat.”

Currently, Alwyn noted that he is doing well: “I feel fortunate to be in a truly wonderful phase both professionally and personally.”

During the interview, Joe also discussed his collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos on the film “Kinds of Kindness.”

He plays a single father trying to rescue his wife (Emma Stone) from a cult. The film marks Alwyn’s second collaboration with Lanthimos after their first project, “The Favourite,” in 2018. Alongside Alwyn, “Kinds of Kindness” features Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Jesse Plemons, Hunter Schafer…

Since then, Taylor Swift has moved on, and she is currently dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce. Swift’s success continues, as she recently won the Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for “Midnights.”

During her acceptance speech for the Best Pop Vocal Album, Swift announced the release of her next album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Fans quickly speculated that the album’s title referenced Alwyn.

Previously, Swift and Alwyn collaborated creatively during their relationship before breaking up.

While quarantining together in London, they explored songwriting together. Swift discussed this collaboration on The Zane Lowe Show for Apple Music.

“He’s always just playing instruments and he doesn’t do it in a strategic ‘I’m writing a song right now’ thing,” Swift explained. “But do I think we would have taken the step of, ‘Hey, let’s see if there’s a song in here. Let’s write a song together.’ If we hadn’t been in lockdown, I don’t think that would have happened, but I’m so glad that it did.”

Swift added, “Joe and I really love sad songs. We’ve always bonded over music…We write the saddest. We just really love sad songs. What can I say?”
