in 2020, JK Rowing left fans after poking fun at a charity for using the term ‘people who menstruate’, leading to accusations of transphobia.

After the controversy arose, most of the actors from the Harry Potter films shared their support for the trans community and expressed their disagreement with Rowling’s views.

Following Radcliffe’s criticism of Rowling’s views on transgender rights, some suggested that the cast was ‘ungrateful,’ considering their success was largely due to the Harry Potter books.

Rowling responded by stating that if Radcliffe and Watson sought her forgiveness for their support of trans rights, they should ‘save their apologies.’

In an interview, Radcliffe dismissed the narrative of being an ‘ungrateful brat,’ stating that people have always wanted to write that story, and they finally got their chance.

He said:  “There’s a version of ‘Are these three kids ungrateful brats?’ that people have always wanted to write, and they were finally able to. So, good for them, I guess.”

Additionally, Radcliffe expressed sadness about the situation, expressing his deep empathy for Rowling and the world she created.

He said: “It makes me really sad, ultimately.

“Because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic.”
