A man who was cut in half by a forklift talked about how long he thinks he will live after his life-changing accident.

Loren Schauers had a terrible accident when he was 18 that changed his life. While working as a laborer in Montana, he was driving a forklift on September 27, 2019, when it went off a bridge.

He fell 50 feet to the ground and got trapped under the forklift. His lower body was severely damaged, and he lost half of his right arm. The doctors told him he had two choices: either have everything below his waist amputated or risk dying.

After Loren’s successful amputation, his wife, Sabia Reiche, answered fan questions on their YouTube channel in 2021.

When asked about Loren’s life expectancy, she said, “That one is really uncertain; there’s no definite answer.

“From what we’ve seen in other cases, the average life expectancy is about 11 years, with the longest being around 24 years. But none of those people had the same situation as Loren.

“The closest case to Loren’s situation, in terms of age and health, was someone who lived about 24 years. So, based on that, we’re hoping Loren has 40 or more years left with us.”

Sabia explained that it’s tough to answer questions about Loren’s life expectancy because his situation is so rare and hard to compare to others.

Loren shared what his daily life is like, saying, “I stream on Twitch as much as I can, whenever I can sit up. Otherwise, I mostly just lay in bed. But when I’m sitting up, we either make YouTube videos or I stream on Twitch.”

His wife added, “Sometimes we visit my parents’ place, and Loren uses his track chair to do things there. In the summer, we go for walks and enjoy the community pool too.”

In the comments, many viewers admired Loren’s positive attitude. One person wrote, “He is physically half the man I am, but I feel like he has more motivation and a better outlook on life than I do. You rock, dude!” Another commenter said, “I’m a 73-year-old man, and I really admire and respect these two young people. They teach us a great lesson about life and love. Thank you, and God bless them!”
