Royal Dilemma: Meghan Markle’s Engagement Ring Sparks Controversy

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring from Prince Harry, a unique piece designed by the Duke of Sussex himself, has recently stirred up some trouble.

The exquisite ring features two diamonds that once belonged to Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

When Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle, he presented her with a breathtaking engagement ring crafted from precious stones with sentimental value.

The design of the ring was a result of careful consideration and personal touch from Prince Harry, making it not only a valuable possession but also a symbol of profound significance for the couple.

However, despite its beauty and emotional significance, maintaining such a lavish ring has proven to be quite challenging, according to a renowned jewellery expert.

Over time, Meghan Markle made alterations to the original design of the ring, which initially featured a thick gold band adorned with three diamonds in a row.

Less than two years after their engagement, Meghan opted to modify the ring, as reported by the Mirror Online.

She transformed the band into a much slimmer version encrusted with smaller diamonds, deviating from the initial design chosen by Prince Harry to complement Meghan’s existing jewellery collection.

Collaborating with Cleve and Company, Queen Elizabeth’s preferred jewellers, Prince Harry meticulously planned the creation of the ring.

He explained that the choice of yellow gold as the primary material was a tribute to Meghan’s preference, while the central gemstone was sourced from Botswana, with additional diamonds from his late mother’s collection, symbolizing her presence in their shared journey.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, expressed surprise at Meghan’s decision to alter the engagement ring, emphasizing its historical significance over its aesthetic appeal.

The royal engagement ring, she argued, represents a legacy rather than a fashion accessory that can be updated to suit changing trends.

Believed to hold a value exceeding £120,000, Meghan’s modified ring has prompted discussions on the challenges of maintaining such precious heirlooms.

Ben Roberts, president of Cloggai, a renowned Welsh gold manufacturer for royal rings, highlighted the intricate care required for preserving the ring’s beauty and longevity.

Reflecting on Kate Middleton’s 12-carat blue sapphire engagement ring, Roberts emphasized the necessity of meticulous maintenance, regular inspections, delicate cleaning procedures, and expert repairs to ensure the ring’s enduring splendor.

By upholding these practices, Meghan Markle can continue wearing the ring daily, embodying a timeless connection to the past while embracing her role as a cherished member of the royal family.
