Criticism Mounts as Journalist Retires: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Under Fire

Nicholas Wichel, a seasoned journalist with an illustrious 25-year broadcasting career, has recently expressed his disapproval of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

As he prepares to retire, Wichel, who has extensively covered the royal family, shared his thoughts on a significant incident that occurred during a live broadcast outside Buckingham Palace in May 2019, when he announced the arrival of baby Archie.

During the broadcast, Wichel experienced an unexpected hiccup that sparked online speculation about his health.

Notably, he was once unfavorably labeled as “awful” by Prince Charles.

In an article for the Sunday Times ahead of his retirement, Wichel shed light on what transpired during the broadcast, offering a sharp critique of Harry and Meghan.

He described it as the single worst moment in his 48-year career, unfolding in front of a live TV audience.

Wichel acknowledged that the incident was related to Prince Harry and Meghan, hinting that subconsciously, he just wasn’t very interested in their story at the time.

Reflecting on the mishap, he admitted, “I was tired.

You need to psych yourself up to stand there and do that, and I hadn’t.

I was complacent.

You can’t afford to be complacent about live television because, as I demonstrated in front of however many million people, it can turn around and bite you.”

The journalist shared that he received support from the public following the incident, with actors who had experienced similar mishaps on stage reaching out to empathize.

However, Wichel confessed that he had never been able to bring himself to watch the moment back due to the considerable blow it dealt to his confidence.

Wichel also delved into the birth of Archie, highlighting that it deviated from royal protocols and was a chaotic affair.

Rumors circulated, both then and since, that Kensington Palace’s birth announcement on the website indicated Archie was born via surrogate.

Although the announcement was eventually taken down, with claims of it being a hack, Wichel pointed out that such a hack had never occurred before or since.

This raised questions about whether commentators and journalists possessed insider knowledge they couldn’t openly discuss.

When discussing Prince Harry’s recent attacks on the British media, Wichel did not hold back, describing them as paranoid and misguided.

He suggested that Harry and Meghan should have been more resilient and utilized the media instead of criticizing it.

Wichel believed that, had they been more patient and less inclined to view well-meaning individuals as adversaries, they could have achieved a great deal as part of the royal family.

Contrary to rumors, Wichel dismissed the notion that Buckingham Palace was against Harry and Meghan from the beginning.

He asserted that the palace had made sincere efforts to accommodate and be sympathetic to their needs.

However, he acknowledged that more effort could have been made, attributing the difficulties to a clash of cultures and suggesting that Harry might not have been well-suited to the role.
