Firefighters from Washington Parish didn’t have to go far to put out a sawmill fire. This is due to the fact that it is their next-door neighbor.

When responders arrived, heavy flames and smoke were apparent, according to Asst. Chief Daniel Touchstone of WWLT.

“I discovered several hydraulic tanks and fuel tanks that were involved.” “The fire started on the second floor and spread,” he continued.

St. Tammany and Pearl River were among the 15 fire departments that responded. “We had over 40 trucks and 100 firefighters on the scene,” said Touchstone.

Firefighters stayed on the site as the fire rekindled until around 4 p.m. Monday.

Hood Industries said it is unclear how the incident will affect output at the 135-person facility.

“They just added a new addition and got it up and running about two weeks ago. I know some of that was involved in the fire,” Touchstone said.
